Significant Issues:
Manzanillo is located in the seven state area of Mexico known as the “Heart of Darkness”. This is an area where less 2 percent of 10 million people are born again believers.
Alcohol and Drug abuse are significant issues in the cultural. There are many people who suffer from dependencies, which has caused significant need for rehabilitation centers and programs. Many individuals leaving these rehabilitation centers struggle to become contributing members of society. This has lead to many returning to old lifestyles or going to through rehabilitation multiple times.
Teen pregnancy is a significant issue in the area. There are many young single or divorced moms, which creates a significant challenge for the family.
Job and career skills are a significant need. Though there is significant job growth, most jobs are labor oriented which provide low wages. This makes it difficult to improve the standard of living and provide much more than the necessities of life. For many families, the ability to own a simple home or to provide a higher level of education for their children is not a likely option.
